“Pad Just Out Of The Bag Have Mould…”
Women, check your sanitary pads before using them. These women discovered moulds in a fresh pad one is about to use.
This is serious. Could it be because it has probably expired? pic.twitter.com/7h0bmUKt97 ELVIS SIMONS (@_elvis_simons) October 23, 2025
In the clip, a lady holding a pad under a light appears to be showing what looks like a dark and splotchy substance in the product, calling it mould. She captioned it, “Please be aware of this. Why does a brand new pad just out of the bag have mould on it?”
This incident has opened up floodgates to people questioning just how clean or hygienic these so-called sanitary pads are, a product that is meant to be free from bacteria for everyday use during the menstrual cycle.
Similar Clips Have Surfaced Online
Within days of sharing it on a social media platform, the viral video which has now garnered over 21 million views has prompted many women to check their sanitary pads before using them.
Following the TikTok video, similar clips have surfaced online in which people are seen experimenting and showing similar results, leaving internet users frowning.
One X user wrote, “It’s time big brands are held accountable for what women use on their bodies.”
The manufacturer company has dismissed the claim by commenting on the viral video stating, “The darker colour you see when putting up your pad against the light or not foreign material contamination. They are normal shadows that appear in products that contain pulp.”
Commenting on the incident on TikTok, one user wrote, “Take it to a microbiology lab. If it’s harmful, this is a serious issue.” Another said, “So now even pads aren’t safe for us.”
Previously, in 2019, African women took to social media with a hashtag #MyAlwaysExperience, accusing the company of producing sanitary pads that cause rashes and burns in sensitive areas.
