Delhi-NCR Rains And Waterlogging: Delhi-NCR residents woke up to heavy rain on Saturday morning. The sudden splash of rain has triggered waterlogging in parts of the city, disrupting traffic and increasing the risk of water-borne diseases commonly called monsoon diseases.

As per reports, heavy rain lashed several parts of Delhi-NCR, including Shastri Bhawan, RK Puram, Moti Bagh, and Kidwai Nagar. Taking cognisance of the situation, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert in the city for the day.

“The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert in Delhi, including in North Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi, South East Delhi and Central Delhi for very heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunderstorm. Waterlogging was witnessed at Panchkuian Marg, Minto Road and Mathura Road following heavy rain, as well as Bharat Mandapam’s Gate no. 7, which was waterlogged in the early hours of Saturday,” a statement released by the officials noted.

With monsoon taking its shape in the city, experts have warned that water-borne or monsoon diseases can see an uptick in the upcoming days. Here are some diseases that may see an uptick during the waterlogging and heavy rainy days:

  2. Chikungunya
  3. Viral fever
  4. Diarrhoea
  5. Eye infection
  6. Skin allergies

How To Stay Safe From Water-Borne Diseases During Monsoon

Dear residents of Delhi-NCR and all the other parts of the country which are witnessing heavy rain, follow these effective tips to saty healthy and disease-free during this time:

  1. Drink boiled water or filtered water only.
  2. Try to avoid outside foods as much as possible. Eat only home-cooked foods. As per experts, one must avoid eating cut fruits, salads, or
  3. uncooked food from outside. Wash vegetables and fruits thoroughly in clean water before cooking.
  4. Do not keep stored water in the house – it can give required place for mosquitoes to breed.
  5. Wash hands before eating or touching food items.
  6. Watch for signs such as fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain, or yellowing of the eyes.
