Jeff Hiller, Dascha Polanco, Ashlie Atkinson Join NBC Comedy ‘Stumble’


NBC‘s upcoming cheerleading comedy “Stumble” has added a trio of guest stars.

Variety has learned exclusively that Jeff Hiller, Dascha Polanco, and Ashlie Atkinson are all set to appear in the series, which will debut on NBC on Nov. 7 and stream the next day on Peacock.

The series is described as a “A mockumentary about the ridiculously high stakes competitive world of junior college cheer.” The cast includes series regulars Jenn Lyon, Taran Killam, Ryan Pinkston, Jarrett Austin Brown, Anissa Borrego, Arianna Davis, Taylor Dunbar, and Georgie Murphy. Kristin Chenoweth will appear as a recurring guest star.

Hiller will play Augustus, who is said to be “The owner of the Candy Button factory and also the town’s biggest benefactor.” Polanco will play the mother of Krystal (Borrego), who is also the manager and CEO of Krystal Enterprises. Atkinson will play Miss Dot, “The eccentric unregistered school nurse/facilities manager. She assists the cheer team with various odd jobs.”

Hiller recently won the Emmy for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy for his role in HBO’s “Somebody Somewhere.” He has also appeared in shows like “30 Rock,” “Community,” “Broad City,” and “Evil.” He is repped by Innovative Artists and OPE Partners.

Polanco is best known for her role in the hit Netflix series “Orange Is the New Black,” on which she starred throughout the show’s seven-season run. Since then, she has been in shows like “When They See Us,” “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story,” and “Russian Doll” as well as films like “Joy” and “In the Heights.” She is repped by Gersh, Liebman Entertainment and Goodman Genow Schenkman.

Atkinson currently plays Mamie Fish in the hit HBO series “The Gilded Age,” which is prepping its fourth season. Her other TV roles include “And Just Like That…,” “Mr. Robot,” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” She will next be seen in the film “The Lost Bus” and has previously starred in features such as “BlacKkKlansman.” She is repped by Rosier Artist Management, TalentWorks and Peikoff Mahan.

“Stumble” hails from writers and executive producers Jeff Astrof and Liz Astrof. Dana Honor is executive producing via Defining Eve Productions, with cheerleading coach Monica Aldama also executive producing. Jeff Blitz directed and executive produced the pilot. Universal Television is the studio.
