Indian Erotica Industry Doc ‘Dirty Entertainers’ Debuts on DocuBay

DocuBay has launched a new original documentary that examines India’s erotica sector as it faces growing regulatory challenges and content restrictions on streaming platforms.

“Dirty Entertainers: The Business of Indian Erotica,” helmed by director Heena Dsouza and produced by HumaraMovie, includes interviews with several well-known industry figures such as Maya Jafar and Rajsi Verma. The film explores the challenges performers and content creators face in an industry dealing with societal judgment and censorship issues.

“At IN10 Media Network, the idea has always been to create thought-provoking storytelling around topics that people often discuss in whispers or secrecy, but rarely speak out loud,” said Aditya Pittie, managing director of IN10 Media Network, DocuBay’s parent company. “The glamour of the entertainment industry is often spoken about, but there’s a large, complex side to it that remains unexplored.”

Samar Khan, chief operating officer of DocuBay, added, “The film doesn’t just explore the world of erotica; it delves into the economics behind it and how content, commerce, and censorship intersect. It’s an unfiltered look at an ecosystem that thrives despite being pushed to the margins.”

The project represents a collaboration between DocuBay’s global streaming platform and HumaraMovie, one of India’s largest independent production houses. Abhishek Gautam, associate producer at HumaraMovie, noted the documentary provides a platform for artists who have rarely shared their perspectives publicly.

“Their experiences add authenticity and depth, and it was invaluable to capture these real-life perspectives for the documentary,” Gautam said. “Collaborating with DocuBay has been instrumental in bringing this vision to life with the platform’s strong global presence.”

Director Dsouza said her goal was to move beyond judgment. “My goal was to humanize this space, to showcase the people who make this industry what it is,” she said. “Bringing their voices to the forefront and piecing together the layers of this hidden ecosystem has been an eye-opening journey.”

“Dirty Entertainers: The Business of Indian Erotica” streams exclusively on DocuBay, which is available in over 170 countries across multiple platforms including Apple App Store, Google Play Store, Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV and Samsung TVs.

HumaraMovie’s slate includes the Disney+ Hotstar series “Mukesh Jasoos,” Netflix feature “Jaaon Kahaan Bata Ae Dil,” and Marathi-language film “Follower,” which premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam.
