In an Instagram post, shared on 23 October, Dr. Vass acknowledges the most burning question, i.e “why too much vitamin D is dangerous?” He explained, “Vitamin D is critical for bone strength, immune health and hormone balance. Vitamin D and its insufficiency are everywhere, but should you actually supplement?”

What happens if you get too much vitamin D?

Cornwell trained Dr. Say that too much vitamin D can cause calcium buildup that can damage your arteries and your kidney. He continued, “For some, vitamin D supplementation can be a game changer, but for others, it could be unnecessary or maybe even harmful.”

Vitamin D Pairing

Dr Vaz recommends that vitamin D does not work alone, but you must consume or compare with paired with magnesium and vitamin K2 to move the calcium into the bone instead of your arteries. The doctor suggests avoiding supplementing in the dark, but rather taking a test and knowing your levels before supplementing with vitamin D.

Symptoms Of Vitamin D Deficiency

Signs and symptoms of vitamin D deficiency may vary between kids and adults, including the severity of the condition. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), children with mild vitamin D insufficiency may show signs like fatigue, sore or painful muscles. And in severe conditions in the same age group, they may show rickets symptoms such as incorrect growth patterns due to bowed or bent bones, muscle weakness, bone pain, and deformities in joints. On the other hand, vitamin D deficiency in adults includes fatigue, bone pain, weakness, aches or cramps in muscles, and depression.

The CDC explains that anyone can have a vitamin D deficiency and about 1 billion people across the globe have a vitamin D deficiency, while 50 per cent of the population has vitamin D insufficiency. In the United States alone, 35 per cent of its population has this medical condition. Although this condition has been observed mostly in people with higher skin melanin content. It states, “Vitamin D deficiency may be more common in people with higher skin melanin content (darker skin) and who wear clothing with extensive skin coverage, particularly in Middle Eastern countries.”
