TripleMania XXXIII Breaks Multiple Records With WWE Stars in the Ring


TripleMania XXXIII shattered past viewing and gate records over the weekend in the first iteration of the event since WWE acquired lucha libre promotion AAA.

TripleMania was streamed live on WWE and AAA’s YouTube channels in both Spanish and English and amassed more than 4.3 million views in its first 24 hours. The event peaked with a live concurrent audience of 614,000.

Additionally, the annual event drew 19,691 fans to the Arena CDMX in Mexico City and broke the all-time AAA gate record and merchandise sales record. It was also the most-attended Mexican lucha libre event this year. WWE and AAA also pulled in 208 million views across their social platforms tied to this year’s TripleMania.

WWE announced its acquisition of AAA from from Mexico-based sports and entertainment holding company Fillip.

At TripleMania, El Hijo del Vikingo defeated Dragon Lee and WWE stars Dominik Mysterio and El Grande Americano to retain the AAA Mega Championship. Elsewhere, Pagano and Psycho Clown defeated Angel & Berto to win the AAA Tag Team Championship, and El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. beat El Mesias to win the Latin American Championship. And in one of the more memorable moments of the night, the 7’3” Omos squared off against the 3’3” Microman as part of the former’s winning effort int he Copa Bardahl battle royale.

AAA was originally founded in 1992 by Antonio Peña and continues to be operated by the Peña family. The Peñas will continue to be involved in AAA along with WWE and Fillip. AAA is one of the most famous lucha libre promotions in the world and has been home to talent including Rey Mysterio, Eddie Guerrero, and recent WWE additions Penta and Fénix.
