‘The Traitors’ Season 2 Greenlit by Prime Video India After Hit Debut

Prime Video India has greenlit a second season of “The Traitors,” following the breakout success of the Indian adaptation of the BAFTA and Emmy Award-winning global format.

Season 2 is being developed at the moment.

Set against the backdrop of a palace in Suryagarh, Rajasthan, and hosted by filmmaker Karan Johar, the first season brings together 20 well-known personalities from across the entertainment spectrum in what the network describes as “the ultimate game of trust and deception.” The cast includes Anshula Kapoor, Ashish Vidyarthi, Elnaaz Nourouzi, Harsh Gujral, Jannat Zubair, Jasmin Bhasin, Karan Kundrra, Lakshmi Manchu, Maheep Kapoor, Mukesh Chhabra, Raftaar, Raj Kundra, Sudhanshu Pandey, and Uorfi Javed, among others.

In the game, traitors are secretly chosen at the outset while the remaining contestants must work together to unmask them before being eliminated themselves.

The unscripted series, which premiered June 12 with new episodes dropping every Thursday, has quickly become a pop culture phenomenon, reaching viewers across 88% of India’s post codes and generating social media buzz with fan reactions and theories, per Prime Video.

“It’s been incredibly rewarding to see ‘The Traitors’ strike such a powerful chord with audiences across India,” said Nikhil Madhok, director and head of originals at Prime Video India. “With its distinctive mix of tension, strategy and emotional honesty, brought to life by our versatile host, Karan Johar and a stellar line up of players who have brought their A-game to the show, the series has emerged as a true breakout.”

The Indian version of “The Traitors” is produced by BBC Studios India Productions in collaboration with independent distributor All3Media International. The format, originally created by IDTV, has become one of the fastest-growing reality show formats worldwide, with over 35 local versions across more than 30 countries.

Sabrina Duguet, executive VP APAC at All3Media International, said: “We’re thrilled with the overwhelming reception and audience response to the Indian adaptation of ‘The Traitors.’ Our fantastic collaboration with Prime Video resulted in delivering a version of the format that feels both fresh and true to its core.”

The format was named K7’s format of the year in 2024, with over 30 territories commissioning local versions and more than 50 territories broadcasting episodes via tape sales.

Madhok said: “As we continue to shape a bold and diverse unscripted slate at Prime Video, ‘The Traitors’ stands out as a marquee title that pushes the boundaries of the reality genre. Buoyed by the overwhelming response, we’re thrilled to begin work on Season 2 and take the experience to the next level.”
