One of the studies has found that there is a possibility of cockroaches in pre-ground coffee.
Coffee has gained a significant amount of popularity in India, and it is becoming as popular as tea and continues to garner more fans. The world continues to list some unparalleled benefits of coffee, and at times, even doctors advise it in moderation. However, a recent video that has surfaced on the internet has left both coffee lovers and those who don’t like it in utter shock as it revealed some alarming truths.
The viral videos have claimed the shocking discovery of the fact that coffees that are sold in the market are mixed with cockroaches, and there’s no clear way to remove them.
It has been noted that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has even given a green light for adding a small amount of insect parts, which even includes cockroaches, to be present in coffee, as they claim that it is almost impossible to avoid them while producing them.
This is the news that has been whirling in the United States, but there is a huge amount of possibility that something similar could be happening in India as well. So let’s find out how one can protect oneself from such cockroaches induced coffees.
The first and foremost way is to be a little brand conscious because there is a high possibility that if you choose brands that you can trust and are known for their quality products, then the above-mentioned thing might not be true for them. Moreover, you can even look for local coffee or one that is sourced naturally, as it would give you that extra boost of quality and hygiene. And if you need to be extra cautious, then you should consider buying whole beans and then grinding them at home so you know exactly what goes in your cup of coffee.
What Led to The Discovery That Coffee Contains Cockroaches
The shocking discovery regarding coffee containing cockroaches was made randomly in the US. According to a report by news.com.au, this happened back in the 1980s.
Once, a biology professor used to walk miles to fetch himself a fresh cup of coffee every day, and this is what left his colleagues perplexed and curious, as they didn’t know why he would go to such lengths just for a cup of coffee, even though he loved it.
On being asked by his fellow mates, he explained, linking his miles-long efforts for a cup of coffee to a severe and intense allergic reaction that occurs in his body because of pre-ground (ready-to-use) coffee. Surprisingly, he revealed that he also had the same kind of allergic reaction to cockroaches.
This made him a little suspicious that the kind of similarity that he has in his allergic reactions to coffee and cockroaches might be signalling something alarming and that is is the presence of pre cockroaches in ground coffee and that might be causing him that reaction because there could be a possibility of it containing tiny bits of cockroaches which might be getting mixed during the production process.
Since the allergic reactions were inherently similar to each other, it has been studied and noted that ground coffee might actually contain bits of cockroaches, which are almost impossible to avoid.
How pre-ground coffee Poses A Threat To Health
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has accepted that there is a possibility of some drinks containing bits of cockroaches, as it is almost impossible to remove them completely in the production process of production
It has been noted that a significant number of insects are already present inside green coffee beans before they are roasted. Also, the warehouses where the coffee is stored have a lot of creepy crawly creatures and that poses a significant threat. After the grinding process, it becomes tough to segregate the cockroaches from the coffee.
And it has been noted that some parts of cockroaches, like their eggs, and other things, can easily get mixed in.
As per the FDA, up to 10 per cent of such contamination in coffee is considered to be acceptable in certain cases, as it’s extremely hard to completely avoid it.
