Shreya’s Iyer recently shared about his spleen Injury and says that he is getting better, updating his cricket fans worldwide.
 
          
          
            Shreyas Iyer, India’s ODI vice captain suffered a serious injury during the third one-day international against Australia and the Sydney Cricket Ground on 25 October 2025. While chasing a ball and taking a running catch to dismiss Alex Carey, he landed awkwardly on his left side, impacting his lower rib cage region.Initial concerns centred around trip injury, which revealed the spleen, a serious internal injury with associated internal bleeding.
Medical Response And Current Condition
Immediately after the fall, Iyer was assisted of the field and rushed to the hospital. His vital signs reportedly dropped and he was admitted to the ICU for the internal bleeding and soon moved out to a stable condition.
According to the recent updates internal bleeding is much stable and repeat scan on 20th October has shown a significant improvement. He is able to respond to phone messages and communicate, which is again positive indicator that he is becoming stable and officials have also stated that his recovery is much faster than the doctor.
The captain Surya Kumar Yadav has also confirmed that they have been talking to him for the days now, and he’s been replying which shows that he’s becoming stable.
What This Injury Means?
A spleen is located on the upper left abdominal and placed multiple roles, filtering blood supporting immunity and storing platelets. Sometimes a person who plays sports can come in the direct contact which can lead to trauma for the life and it may also result in internal bleeding.It can potentially leave a person short, and can also come with life threatening complications.
In his case ,it has left lower rib cage region with the delayed internal bleeding that was identified by scans and hospitalisation later.
How Much Time Does This Recovery Take?
Recovery can vary from person to person but typical recovery can take around 6 to 8 weeks and due to this progress, the statement also suggests that it can even return sooner. His availability for upcoming series remains uncertain. It depends upon various factors with how early will return which means taking care of no residual, bleeding, and even internal complications. It is also important that he is fully from the rib cage abdominal area to prevent any re-injury. Once he, gradually starts returning to training with field drills and batting that could be one of the indication of getting better.

Fortunately, his condition seems to be improving now, and we can’t wait to see him back on the field. While there is still a period of rest but the earliest signs are positive as he is stable out of ICU and responding to treatment. For the talented and important in India’s batting lineup, the emphasis will be on cautious recovery, ensuring that he fully heals and does not rush back to it.
