Federation Studios’ distribution arm Federation Intl. has closed a raft of sales for crime series “Sherlock & Daughter,” starring Emmy-nominated “Fargo” actor David Thewlis, “The New Mutants” star Blu Hunt and Dougray Scott, who appeared in “Mission: Impossible 2” and “Batwoman.”
The show, which is produced by Starlings Television Distribution through its affiliate Albion Television, in association with The CW and Warner Bros. Discovery, was nominated for best global fiction series at last month’s Monte-Carlo Television Festival.
The new spin on Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous detective has been a hit with audiences in the U.S. and Australia. The series rated as the number 1 series on The CW Network in the U.S. and the number 2 series on The CW streaming platform. Within 48 hours of going live on HBO Max in the U.S., it rose to number 4 show on the app and has remained in the top 10 since then. SBS in Australia saw an average 150% increase in total audience share for the first four episodes.
Federation has sold the show to Sky Italia in Italy, Bell Media in Canada, RTS in Switzerland, Nova in Greece, Disney in the Balkans, Tivibu in Turkey, and TV3 Goup in the Baltics.
Discussions are underway in German-speaking territories, where the show is represented by Palatin Media.
Presales included Warner Bros. Discovery in the U.K. and Ireland, YLE in Finland, NRK in Norway, SVT in Sweden, DR in Denmark, RUV in Iceland and Amedia in CIS.
“Sherlock & Daughter” follows Holmes on a sinister case that appears to have him beaten. Unable to investigate without endangering his closest friends, the detective is at a loss for once until he meets the young Amelia Rojas in the aftermath of the mysterious murder of her mother. Together, they set out to solve the case and find definitive proof that Amelia is, indeed, the daughter of Holmes.
Directed by Bryn Higgins, “Sherlock & Daughter” stars Thewlis as Holmes, Hunt as Rojas, a young Native American woman determined to prove to the sleuth that he is her father, and International Emmy and BAFTA Award-winner Scott as Moriarty. The series is created, written and executive produced by Brendan Foley, with “The Closer” alum James Duff as its showrunner.
The show is a CW Original in association with Warner Bros. Discovery. It is produced by Starlings TV Distribution through its affiliate Albion Television, and co-produced by StoryFirst, in association with financiers Krempelwood and MBM3.
