Nick Offerman, Jacob Trembley Thriller ‘Sovereign’ Bought for UK

“Sovereign,” the crime thriller starring Nick Offerman (“Parks & Recreation”) and Jacob Tremblay (“Room”), has been acquired by Signature Entertainment for the U.K. and Ireland.

The film, written and directed by Christian Swegal in his feature film debut, follows an anti-government fanatic and his son who venture across the country while constantly finding themselves on the wrong side of the law. It’s loosely based on real-life events surrounding the West Memphis police shootings in 2020 and recently had it world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Alongside Offerman and Tremblay, Dennis Quaid (“The Substance”), Megan Mullally (“Will & Grace”) and Martha Plimpton (“The Goonies”) also star.

“Sovereign” is produced by Nick Moceri (“A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night”), Barbara J. McCarthy (“Don’t Sleep”), Shelley D. Needham (“American Cherry”), Jeff Hall, Jeffrey Drader and Maribeth Derry.

The deal was negotiated between Signature’s acquisitions and development manager Katie Wilkinson-Javes and Concourse founder and CEO Matthew Shreder.

“Sovereign is the kind of stop-you-in-your-tracks thriller that we are always searching for at Signature,” said Wilkinson-Javes. “U.K. and Irish audiences will never look at Nick Offerman or Jacob Tremblay in the same way again later this year.”

Signature recently released “Terrifier 3,” which became its highest-ever growing box office hit, alongside the Gerard Butler action thriller sequel “Den of Thieves: Pantera” and Peter Dinklage western “The Thicket.” Upcoming titles include sci-fi thriller “The Astronaut” starring Kate Mara and Laurence Fishburne and fantasy epic “Red Sonja” starring Matilda Lutz.
