Nick Mangold Death: Former New York Jets player Nick Mangold has died at the age of 41 this Saturday night. He spent his entire 11-season career with the New York Jets and passed away on October 25, citing complications from chronic kidney disease. His death has come as heartbreaking, soon after he announced publicly that he was on dialysis and urgently seeking a kidney transplant. In mid October, he revealed that he had been diagnosed in 2006 with a genetic defect that progressively impaired his kidney function with no suitable family donor. Mangold reached out to the Jets and OU state communities for help, specifically asking for a donor with O type blood.

Not only this, but he expressed, “I always knew this day would come, but I thought I would had more time”. Unfortunately, the time was shorter than hoped. Drafted 29th overall in the 2006 NFL draft out of Ohio state University, Mangold quickly became one of the most dependable interior linemen in the league. He played 171 games for the Jets on seven pro bowl selections, and was twice named first team all pro. After his retirement, following the 2016 season, he remained active in football and his community. He was inducted into the jets ring of honour in 2022, and was under consideration for the Pro Football Hall of fame. Off the field, his teammates and coaches remembered him for his leadership, integrity, humour, and mentorship.
