Jim Jarmusch’s ‘Father Mother Sister Brother’ Sells Wide

Jim Jarmusch’s “Father Mother Sister Brother” has sold to multiple territories ahead of its world premiere in competition at the Venice Film Festival.

The film stars Tom Waits, Adam Driver, Mayim Bialik, Charlotte Rampling, Cate Blanchett, Vicky Krieps, Sarah Greene, Indya Moore, Luka Sabbat and Françoise Lebrun.

Distribution rights have been picked up in Italy (Lucky Red), Spain (Avalon Distribucion Audiovisual), Portugal (Nos Lusomundo), Greece (Cinobo), Poland (Gutek Film), Hungary (Cirko Films), Romania (Bad Unicorn), Former Yugoslavia (MCF MegaCom Film), Czech Republic and Slovakia (Aerofilms), Middle East and North Africa (Front Row Filmed Ent.), South Korea (Andamiro Films), and Hong Kong (Edko Films).

Mubi has acquired all rights in North America, Latin America, U.K., Ireland, Benelux, Turkey and India. Cinéart will release the film in Benelux in collaboration with Mubi.

The film is composed of three stories, all concerning the relationships between adult children, their somewhat distant parent or parents, and each other. Each of the three chapters takes place in the present, and each in a different country. “Father” is set in the Northeast U.S., “Mother” in Dublin, Ireland, and “Sister Brother” in Paris, France.

“Father Mother Sister Brother” is a “kind of anti-action film, its subtle and quiet style carefully constructed to allow small details to accumulate – almost like flowers being carefully placed in three delicate arrangements,” Jarmusch said.

It was produced by Charles Gillibert, Joshua Astrachan, Carter Logan and Atilla Salih Yücer.

The production companies are Jarmusch’s Badjetlag, Gillibert’s CG Cinema and Hail Mary Pictures in association with Saint Laurent Productions and Mubi.

The film is presented by Mubi, Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello and Fremantle’s The Apartment Company, in association with Badjetlag and CG Cinema, Cinema Inutile, Films du Losange and Weltkino. In Ireland, Hail Mary Pictures co-produced and finance was provided by Screen Ireland. Lenders were Cofiloisirs and Three Point Capital.

The Match Factory is handling international rights.
