Japan Lockdown Live Updates: After fighting rising COVID cases for over 5 years, Japan is now grappling with a sudden surge in Influenza virus cases. According to the latest reports, a total of 6,000 patients have been receiving treatment at the hospital – experiencing symptoms of flu such as fever, lingering cough, headache, and body aches.
According to local media reports, schools and childcare centres have been especially affected. As per the data, around 135 schools, kindergartens, and childcare facilities were closed across multiple prefectures in the past two weeks, about three times more than at the same time last year. Closures have been concentrated in Tokyo, Okinawa, and Kagoshima. One Yamagata primary school shut after 22 of its 36 pupils showed flu-like symptoms.
Taking cognisance of the situation, the Japanese authorities have declared a nationwide flu epidemic and closed schools, while also implementing COVID-19 control protocols.
