Google Gemini for Home is rolling out in the US — here’s how to get early access

Google smart home users in the US can now get an early taste of the new Gemini for Home assistant, which began rolling out in early access on Tuesday. It’s slated to replace the current Google Assistant on Nest devices, marking one of the most significant updates yet to Google’s smart home ecosystem. It runs on the Gemini LLM, allowing it to complete more complex tasks and offer a more conversational tone compared to Google Assistant.

If you want to try out Gemini for Home early, you have to request early access. Start by going to your Google Groups settings and selecting “Global Settings.” Make sure the option “Add me to their groups” is checked — this will allow you to join the early access group if your request is approved. Then head over to the Google Home app. Select your profile picture (or initials, if you haven’t set a profile picture), then select “Home settings.” Here you should see an “early access” option where you can request access to Gemini for Home.

Once you join early access, Gemini for Home will replace Google Assistant on all your compatible devices. Keep in mind, you won’t be able to go back to Google Assistant if you change your mind. There are also a couple of features that require a paid Google Home Premium subscription, including Gemini Live and the ability to search your camera history with Gemini for Home.
