France TV Distribution Launches La Rochelle Winner ‘Laura’s Treatments

France TV Distribution has boarded “Laura’s Treatments,” a critically-acclaimed social thriller that recently took top honors at the La Rochelle Fiction Festival. The international distributor will launch sales at next week’s Mipcom in Cannes.

Produced by Tetra Media Fiction and Torcello, the four-part series stars Valérie Bonneton (“Little White Lies”) as Laura, a small-town pharmacist who runs a support group for victims of domestic abuse. When one of her group members is murdered before her eyes and another’s plea for help goes unanswered, Laura is driven to act. Consumed by grief and anger at a system that turns a blind eye, she takes justice into her own hands. But how far is she willing to go to defend the women she’s sworn to protect?

Speaking to Le Parisien, co-creators Marie Kremer and Frédéric Krivine (“A French Village”) explained that while the series is not based on a true story, it draws deeply from real social issues. Kremer said they wanted to explore “the lack of justice for women” through fiction, telling the story from the perspective of someone who is not a direct victim to help viewers identify more closely with her.

Director Akim Isker said Bonneton’s character reflects “us, the audience,” an ordinary person compelled to act when institutions fail. “We’re not offering answers,” he added. “Our aim is to raise questions and spark debate.”

For Bonneton, the shoot was one of the most emotionally challenging of her career. “It was painful and very difficult. I was shaken,” she said, recalling her meetings with real survivors of domestic violence and the sobering statistics showing that 113 French women were killed by a partner or ex-partner in 2025, compared with 118 in 2024.

“We all know women who have gone through this,” Bonneton continued. “And I have too. Every year, 200,000 women file complaints, but many more stay silent out of fear. I understand Laura — she can’t bear it anymore. She knows more women will die, and she acts. It’s stronger than her, beyond reason, almost a sacrifice. I hope this series helps bring change. I want to carry these women’s voices.”
