Children are as prone to experiencing depression and anxiety, but as they are innocent, depression, anxiety and other mental health-related issues can go unreported in children. Children lack the knowledge to identify their conditions and the medium to channelise their inner feelings through words. The lack of ability to communicate and understand their own emotions can further escalate the issue and make it even worse. Poor mental health gets triggered through voicelessness and a lack of identification, which puts a delay in receiving help.

During such times when a child fails to speak up or is silent about what they are feeling, it becomes incumbent upon a parent to understand what the child doesn’t say. Parents may have a hard time reading those symptoms that the child might indicate of poor mental health, constant anxiety and other depression related issues. The hard-to-interpret symptoms need much awareness and attention. If your child is showing the under-given signs, then there is a chance or a high possibility that your child is under threat of depression and anxiety.

They are seeking solitude

If your child is socialising less and is suddenly showing the urge to remain alone or spend time alone, then there’s a possibility that they may not be in a good place mentally. Children resort to loneliness when they are battling internal fears or apprehension. The loneliness can even indicate towards the fact that your child might be dealing with some internal trauma or going through a challenge.

They are resorting to silence

A child suddenly goes silent when their mind becomes loud. If you see your child talking less or not talking at all, this could actually be a sign of silent depression or a fear. Try talking to your child and making them open up to you, the silence actually speaks a lot and sometimes speaks much of poor mental well-being.

They are acting cranky

If your child is acting impatient or restless, they are getting upset over little things and showing anger over minor issues, then there’s a high possibility that there’s something that is troubling them mentally and that might push them into the hollow vacuum of depression. Such behaviours should be studied and understood as they are indicators of poor mental health.

Loss of interest

If your child is suddenly showing a shift in interest, the things that they used to love and enjoy are no longer the things that interest them, then there’s a possibility of some mental strain that is making them lose interest in the things that they once liked or enjoyed.

They constantly break down

If your child frequently breaks down or starts crying after the minutest problems, then this small issue is a part of a larger picture that shows that they are mentally struggling. Such kind of signs are indicators of silent depression and anxiety.

It can be challenging as a kid to go through mental pressure and problems, but what worsens the situation of depression in kids is their inability to vocalise their fears and challenges. Parent must try to figure out what their child goes through and be well aware of the possible signs that they may show; any neglect in addressing those signs can lead to the worst-case scenario.
