Former Hollywood actor Bruce Willis has already been through a lot after his battle with Frontotemporal Dementia.

The Fifth Element fame, who is well known for his acting in many films, is having a tough time now, and his wife has recently opened up about moving the actor into a second home. Emma disclosed further that she resides in a house near him where she lives with her daughters, Mabel, who is 13 years old and the younger one, Evelyn, who is 11. She said, ” It was one of the hardest decisions that I’ve had to make so far,

But I knew, first and foremost, Bruce would want that for our daughters. You know, he would want them to be in a home that was more tailored to their needs, not his”.

Further, she added, saying,” He was quieter, distant, and stopped doing things he loved, like school runs. That wasn’t like him.” and for Emma, this decision was made after she noticed a lot of changes, and the family joins together for the breakfast and dinners.

This diagnosis was made in 2023 with Frontotemporal Dementia, a condition which is known to affect a lot of things like behaviour, language and personality.

Emma talked about how the loss of language has affected him a lot and she has been looking for new ways to connect. Recalling everything from the early days of his Illness, she revealed how she used to stay up during the Nights to take care of him.

Caregivers in the family can really feel stressed while managing everything and dealing with everyday conflicts with the person who is suffering from dementia.

  1. Emotional stress: Caregivers can feel stressed, tired and sometimes experience a huge loss and grief of detachment from the loved ones.
  2. Isolation: When a caregiver is fully involved, they might feel isolated from their other family and friends as there focus goes into taking care of the person who is suffering.
  3. Fear in the mind of the Caregiver: It is dementia that creates a lot of fear and also a sense of helplessness that creates a lot of pressure on the caregiver to fix everything.
  4. Behaviour changes: when a person is suffering from Dementia, it causes a lot of behavioural changes in a person and makes it tough for a person to connect with loved ones.
  5. Overprotectiveness: Family members can become overprotective for the person suffering from Dementia and it might cause a lot of arguments in the family.

What Causes Dementia?

Genetic factors: Sometimes a person can inherit this from their family and key genes include MAPT , GRN and C9 or f72.

According to reports , 40 percent cases are inherited from family .

Abnormal protein accumulation : due to abnormal protein accumulation, it’s disrupts normal brain, cell function, leading to cell damage and sometimes causing death.

Environmental factors : according to some reports, if you are exposed to certain toxins or chemicals, it is suspected to contribute to FTD.

Frontotemporal Dementia Treatment Procedure

Some of the therapies include:

  1. Occupational therapy : Therapy includes identifying basic problems in everyday life and even getting dressed and help work with practical solutions.
  2. Speech and language therapy: speech and language therapy is more about improving the communication .
  3. Physiotherapy: This therapy is done to help with moment of arms and legs
