Rob Reiner Son Nick Reiner to Be Charged With Murder in Parents Deaths

Nick Reiner is set to be charged with two counts of first degree murder after the death of his parents in their Los Angeles home on Sunday.

Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell during a press conference confirmed the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office “has formally filed charges against Mr Reiner for the murder of his parents.”

“This case is heartbreaking and deeply personal, not only for the Reiner family and their loved ones, but for our entire city. We extend our deepest condolences to all of those who are affected by this tragedy,” LA Police Chief McDonnell added.

Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman, also on hand at the update into the investigation into the killings of Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Reiner, said their son would face “first degree murder charges with special circumstances” of multiple murders. Hochman added Reiner “faces a special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, that being a knife.”

The LA District Attorney said the first degree murder charges will be officially filed later on Tuesday. After he has been medically cleared for transport, Reiner will be formally arraigned on the charges and will have a chance to plead guilty or not guilty.

Hochman said his office has not yet decided whether to pursue the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole in the criminal murder case. Nick Reiner has hired criminal defense attorney Alan Jackson for legal representation.

The 32-year-old son of the Hollywood director and his wife was taken into custody on Sunday at Exposition Park in Los Angeles, and he was apprehended without incident, LA Police Chief McDonnell told the media. Nick Reiner is being held without bail.

Iconic filmmaker Rob Reiner, 78, and wife Michele, 70, were found dead in their L.A. home on Chadbourne Avenue. The couple suffered “lacerations consistent with a knife,” law enforcement sources told TMZ. There reportedly was no sign of forced entry.

Nick Reiner was early on reported as a suspect. He battled drug addiction and homelessness, had more than a dozen stints in rehab and co-wrote a film loosely based on his life, Being Charlie (2015), that was directed by his father.
