Britney used the example of the character Maleficent who loses his wings but gains them back, as a comparison to her life. She explained her wings as being stolen off and that she was able to identify with the loss and recovery experienced in the film.

“I do feel like my wings were taken away and brain damage happened to me a long time ago 100 percent,” Spears wrote. “I have of course moved on from that troubling time in my life and I’m blessed to be alive “

What is Brain Damage?

Brain damage refers to damage to the brain which interferes with its functioning of the brain. It leads to its occurrence when the brain cells are destroyed or damaged. This harm could be caused as a result of an accident, absence of oxygen or by infection, the use of drugs or alcohol or extreme emotional and physical stress.

In cases where the brain cells are damaged, they find it difficult to repair themselves. An individual may experience memory, movement, speech and emotion difficulties as well as difficulties in thinking depending on the part of the brain affected.

Early Signs of Brain Damage

Early indication of brain damage also differs in patients as it depends on which section of the brain is involved and the extent of damage. Still, certain common symptoms could be observed at the early stages. The following are warning signs to be observed:

Memory problems

Problems with recent memory or recalling names and simple facts may also be an initial indication. An individual can forget easily or appear lost in situations that he or she knows.

Trouble concentrating

The individual might not be able to concentrate on an action, a discussion, or remain organised.

Changes in mood or behaviour

Brain changes can be observed by sudden illogical irritability, anxiety, or outbursts of emotions that are out of the ordinary for the affected individual. Others can also back out of social contexts.

Headaches and dizziness

Persistent headaches, headaches that leave one feeling lightheaded or unsteady, can be indications of something wrong in the brain.

Difficulty speaking or understanding

Difficulty with wording, impaired speech, and difficulties in comprehending what other people are saying can be early symptoms.

Poor coordination

An individual can feel awkward, lose his balance and become slow in physical response.

Vision or hearing problems

The vision may be blurred; a person may experience double vision or may hear a ringing sound in the ears in case the part of the brain involved in the processing of these organs is hit.

Sleep disturbances

Excessive sleepiness, inability to sleep or always being tired may also be indicative of brain functionality alteration.

When the signs are unexpected or get worse with the course of time, one should also seek medical assistance. Further damage may be avoided by early diagnosis and treatment to enhance recovery.
