United States President Donald Trump, 79, who is serving his second tenure is known for passing controversial public statements, but since the beginning of this year, his health status has also been under scrutiny.
Following widespread speculations about Donald Trump’s health including viral trends where the public questioned ‘Is Donald Trump Alive?’ Healthcare professionals are now sharing their inputs on POTUS’ mental fitness after the President made several “eyebrow-raising” remarks in public.
Donald Trump’s “Eyebrow-Raising” Remarks
More recently, Dr. Narinder Kapur a senior neuropsychologist and visiting professor at University College, London (UCL) claims that Trump’s public statements and appearances seem to be ‘odd and strange.’ The visiting professor publicly stated that Donald Trump must undergo cognitive testing, including Alzheimer’s screening.
Dr. Kapur argued that Donald Trump, recent silly and awkward remarks warrant a proper checkup and not only a quick test which the White House is touting. Highlighting POTUS suggestion that Canada could become America’s “51st state” and his obsession with annexing Greenland, the neuropsychologist stated, “These remarks are eyebrow-raising.”
Warning Signs Of Dementia
“A proper neuropsychological exam takes three to four hours and examines five key areas: memory, concentration, language, visuospatial abilities, and executive function,” he said.
Additionally, Dr. John Gartner, a psychologist has also chimmed in on the question about Trump’s mental fitness, claiming to observe a “major deterioration” in POTUS’ language and motor skills, including slowed gait and verbal stumbles as potential warning signs of dementia.
White House Comment On Donald Trump’s Health
Despite ongoing speculation on the health status of Donald Trump, the White House maintains POTSU is in “excellent health.” In April, while speaking to the media, Capt. Sean Barbabella, Trump’s physician, stated that Trump displayed “robust cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and general physical function.”
Dr. Kapur acknowledges that as a political figure some mistakes may be political exaggeration, but emphasised that persistent errors are concerning. “More rigorous testing is needed,” Dr. Kapur said. “There are now blood tests for Alzheimer’s. The next time he has his annual exam, Donald Trump should have that blood test.”
