Deadly Brain Virus With 75% Fatality Risk Found In China Bats Amidst Ongoing COVID Surge: Are Humans At Risk?

Deadly Brain Virus Found In China: Concerns about another pandemic and virus outbreak loom as the Chinese researchers found 20 new viruses linked to bats.

In China, a team of researchers have found that bats can be a new area of concern as researchers have found that at least 20 new viruses have been living within bats, which has raised “urgent concerns” and is known to pose a challenge to livestock and life of human life.

For the experiment, the scientific board used genetic sequencing to help identify the challenging 22 viruses which are found in the kidney tissues of 142 bats. As per reports, these bats were taken from one of the most prominent regions of China, which is the Yunnan province, over a few years, ranging from 2017 to 2021.

Out of all of them have been reported to have qualities that are genetically identical to Hendra and Nipah henipaviruses.

Talkign about the study results, the researchers said, “It has been noted that both of the viruses are known to pose a challenge to the brain by causing inflammation and other life-threatening respiratory diseases in humans”.

The study has pulled the curtain off the living truth of the species of bacteria along with a parasite, which till now have remained unknown to humans and the world.

New Virus Detected In China Has 75% Fatality Rate: What Else Do We Know

This new breath of research has just come after a few years of the life-threatening COVID-19 outbreak, which took a toll on the lives of millions of people around the world.

The very first case of this deadly virus was reported to be found in China’s Wuhan city in late 2019.

The Wuhan Virus Research Centre has since been working on the coronaviruses, which seem to have their origins in bats and were first reported back in 2019.

Initially, there were assumptions that highlighted that the pandemic hit the world once after the virus was reported to leak from the Wuhan lab, and one of the workers who got infected became the source of transmission.

In one of the latest experiments, the team of the researchers have discovered that the bats were found to be roosting near fruit orchards, which were located on the closer side of rural yet populated villages.

The research scientists have signalled an alarm that urine could possibly act as a source of transmission in henipaviruses, which can potentially increase the risk of these bats ending up contaminating the fruits, which are widely consumed by several living beings, like humans and animals.

The researchers warned that this could pave the way for another outbreak in the country and other parts of the world.

In the study, it has been highlighted that there has been a discovery of two previously unknown henipaviruses, called Yunnan bat henipavirus 1 and 2.

The study has highlighted the first full-length genomes of this particular type of virus, which was found in bats in China.

In ok for the statements, the molecular virologist professor Vinod Balasubramaniam termed these viruses to be “concerning” as they were in the kidneys of the bats, “a site linked to urine production, raising alarm about potential human exposure via contaminated fruits or water”.

Henipaviruses have yet to be known to be responsible for some fatal outbreaks in the past.

The initially detected Yunnan bat viruses, as per the study, share around 52% to 57% of their genetic material with other counterparts. Besides this, what has made it more concerning is that the team has also detected a prior unidentified single-celled parasite, which is called Klossiella yunnanensis.

How Dangerous Is The Virus?

The newly discovered viruses, which have been found in bat kidneys in China’s Yunnan region, have been claimed by the study they “underscore critical zoonotic threats,”.

They further explained that the possibility of such viruses when it comes to infecting humans or animals requires urgent attention. However, there are no chances of another outbreak or pandemic despite the 20 new viruses that have been found.
