Who would have thought that our simple morning habits could put our health at risk of dangerous health conditions. Researchers are now pointing fingers on how skipping breakfast in the morning can actually contribute to clogged arteries that harms our cardiovascular health.

Breakfast is an important meal of your day that helps to restore energy after an overnight fasting. Following this ritual is crucial for better concentration, productivity and cognitive performance. However, despite its vital role in our daily lives many people skip breakfast altogether either to keep up with the face-paced world, weight management or time pressure.

Scientists now indicate that this skipping breakfast habit may worsen your health risks much more than it may look, particularly for cardiovascular and arterial health.

Breakfast And Arterial Health

Arteries are tiny blood vessels that bring oxygen-carrying blood from your heart to all of your body cells. The Cleveland Clinic explains that your artries plays a crucial role in keeping your body alive and healthy by delivering oxygen, nutrients and hormones throughout your body.

Over time, arteries may get blocked due to build up of plaque such as fat-like substance, cholesterol, and cellular waste product, etc. This condition may occur when the walls of your arteries are damaged due to atherosclerosis, that gradually increases risk of heart attacks and strokes.

Risk Of Avoiding Eating Breakfast

Studies also indicate that skipping breakfast can set off sequence of phsiologival events which may hasten the process. Experts warn that people who are avoid eating breakfast in the morning are likely to experience higher levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol, increased blood pressure and insulin resistance, all of which can pose risk of developing arterial plaque formation.

It further explains that when your body is starved of nutrients in the morning it is typically compendated by releasing stress hormone such as cortisol. This surge of hormones raises inflammaton which is one key factor that hardens the arteries. Additionally, people who skip meals later in the day and gobbles high calori diet may increase the triglyceride levels and put heavy pressure on the vascular system.

How Much Energy Are People Getting From Breakfast

A study published in the ScienceDirect titled “The Importance of Breakfast in Atherosclerosis Disease: Insights From the PESA Study” looked into how breakfast habits may relate to early stages of artery disease.

Scientist examined people with high-energy breakfast, low-energy breakfast, and skipping breakfast. The study further identified that only 27% of the population received 20% of total daily energy intake, and 70% of the population receicved 5% and 20% of total daily energy intake. Unfortunately only 3% of the popualtion receive 5% daily energy, respectively. The recent findings show that people who skipped breakfast has signifanctly higher risk of developing atherosclerosis.

87% More Likely To Develop Cardiovascular Disease

Interestingly, a report by the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC) also found that adults who skipped breakfast were 87% more likely to develop cardiovascular disease than those who regularly consume breakfast.
